Träumerei
This collection consists of six collotype prints selected from Sakiko Nomura’s body of work. Five of the prints show two black-and-white photographs in a vertical arrangement, while the sixth shows a single photograph of flowers taken in 2021 in Nomura’s hometown of Shimonoseki. The titles of the six collotype prints included are “Tokyo” (1995), “Fukuoka” (2013), “Bhopal” (2013), “Kanazawa” (2018), “Granada” (2016), and “Shimonoseki” (2021). Together with the title (a reference to Robert Schumann’s piano piece of the same name), Nomura’s photographs suggest a dreamlike reverie in the memory of different places.
Collotype is one of the oldest photographic printing technique and involves oil-based pigment inks. The process is revered for its excellent reproduction of colors and gradations, the smoothness and depth of its texture and its strong durability. Founded in Kyoto in 1905, Benrido Atelier is one of the most experienced collotype printing studios in the world.
