For Tokyo no Koibito (“Tokyo Lovers”), the latest photobook by Japanese photographer Chikashi KASAI, 380 shots were selected from KASAI’s vast body of work created during the years 2011-2017. Among the over 60 models depicted in the book are models and actresses as well as friends and acquaintances. KASAI, son of a famous Butoh dancer and choreographer, has been building his photographic career for more than 20 years, exhibiting at Taka Ishii Gallery early in his career, then being discovered and championed by American photographer Nan Goldin. KASAI’s style of photography delivers a private, sensual, stimulating kind of sexuality that captures the vitality between photographer and model during the moment the shutter is clicked.
