In the photobook “Time as River”, Japanese photographer Annu Aalto (@annu.aalto) collects her photographs taken during countless trips to Helsinki over the past nine years. Rather than a travel journal, Aalto’s images collate to form a comprehensive—if subjective—portrait of the Finnish capital from the perspective of an intimately acquainted outsider.

“There are things that can only be seen over time. There will come a day when I can no longer return to this city as it will not be my final resting place. Until then, I will go back, time after time, to be an observer of this city of suspended existence.”
