THE VILLAGE STORY ー KITAKAMI 1963 −1973 ー
Attracted by the simplistic and rural lifestyle of the inhabitants of the village settlement of Akka, located in the mountains of Iwate Prefecture, Ishida Hirokazu visited the villages of Akka and Yaehata nestled within the Kitagami Mountain Range from 1963-1973. Ranked as a ‘Class 5 Remote Region’ Hirokazu, explored and befriended the local community, learning their way of life and observing the effects of Japan’s economic growth upon the small village as a ground number of young people began to leave to seek work within the surrounding cities. Captured within are images which portray a personal reflection of HIrokazu’s experience within the community, photographing the candid and intimate moments shared by the children and families of Akka Village. Included within this publication is an afterword by Hirokazu available in both Japanese and English.
