Kimi no sumu machi ("The City In Which You Live")
Based on his three-year series for the Japanese magazine "Eyescream," Yoshiyuki Okuyama's photobook "Kimi no sumu machi" ("The City In Which You Live") captures life in Tokyo in the 2010s. Composed of Polaroid photographs of young, popular models and actresses, as well as shots of Tokyo's urban landscape, Okuyama's book paints a light, softly colored, and almost nostalgic vision of Tokyo in the final years of the Heisei era. With an unconventional style and playful sensibility that has won him awards such as the New Cosmos of Photography Excellence Award and the Kodansha Publishing Culture Award for Photography, Okuyama collaborates with his models to go beyond mere fashion snapshots. Seven years after the release of the first edition, "Kimi no sumu machi" has only grown in charm and significance.
The book concludes with brief biographical notes on all the models. All text in Japanese.
