Sanzen
In “Sanzen,” Japanese photographer Zen Yoshikawa’s second photobook, the world is captured only in wind-blown, faint fragments and details, with contexts and surroundings obscured by blinding lights, myopic proximity, or intentional blur. Yoshikawa shows just enough, giving and withholding information in the rhythm of a poem. Each new photograph is a step toward Yoshikawa's way of seeing the world (or experiencing life), always in awe and seemingly overwhelmed by the complexity of a moment.
"Despite all the technical advances, I still believe that every photograph is essentially a small miracle. When the radiance of life shines through photographs, they become irreplaceable.
Zen Yoshikawa's photographs seem to touch the world directly, to be in a dance with life."
