Published in 2009 by Little More, Masayuki Yoshinaga’s Portraits of Japaenese Youth brings together a collection of images which capture the many varied subcultural groups which symbolized Japan in the 2000s. From capturing fashion groups such as the hyper feminized ‘Grya-ru’, the drag culture scene in Japan’s entertainment district, to truck drivers groups, Yoshinaga’s Portrais of Japanese Youth is a unique and unseen depiction of the many communities and subcultures which exist within the fabric of Japan’s society, an honest and true representation of the individuals and their ‘family’ groups which they have created in and amongst themselves.
