Pathography
“In medicine, the study of the influence and significance of the medical or psychiatric history upon the character, achievements, criminal offenses, etc. of an individual. I myself understand it to be the examination of environmental and circumstantial contexts as well as the search for medical correlatives.”
- Rokuzo Waku
Published by Sokyu-sha in 2015, Rokuzo Wako’s Pathography is a photographic exploration into the human psyche. Capturing the everyday banalities of contemporary Japanese society, Rokuzo presents a narrative presented in two parts, the first in black and white and the following in colour, which questions and examines human behavior, exploring the human experience through the lens of the camera from births, to deaths to social spectacles. Included within the publication is an afterword written by Rokuzo available in both Japanese and English.
