Looking at different things/Doing the same thing
Shin Hamada’s first photobook “Looking at different things / Doing the same thing” is a quiet collection of Hamada’s diary-like photography.
“The photographs show visibly worn sneaker shoes; the back of someone we don’t get to know; a dirty bag; a window on some house; a coin lying on a table; a half-finished ceramic piece. Listed like that, none of these things appear as likely subjects for artworks, but Hamada puts them in the center of his photography.
There is no better/worse in his photographs. In his images, the Tokyo Tower is equivalent to a pair of sneakers, forming a seemingly limitless sensuous lowland.”
