Light - Masterpieces of Japanese Photography
Part of the “Masterpieces of Japanese Photography” series, this version of “Hikari” by the Tampei Photography Club is a faithful reproduction of the 1940 photobook of the same name.
It was originally published to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Osaka-based photography club, featuring works by 58 artists, including Terushichi Hirai, Koro Honjo, Toru Kono, Kaneyoshi Tabuchi, Nakaji Yasui and Bizan Ueda, selected from Tampei Photography Club exhibitions held between 1935 and ’39. As such, “Hikari” perfectly captures the imaginative photography and the avant-garde sensibilities of the group.
Also included is a booklet with a critical text by Kotaro Iizawa and an essay providing further information and context by Ryuichi Kaneko (in Japanese and in English translation – please note that all text included in the book itself is only available in Japanese).
