Hikigane
The debut work of former punk rock photographer Rody Shimazaki!
Together with chronicle written by rapper ECD, Shimazaki recorded the SEALDS demonstrations at the National Diet building, anti-hate marches and similar nonviolent grass-roots protests in 131 photos.
In response to and in the spirit of world-wide protests such as the Arab Spring, queer parades, the Umbrella Revolution and the March on Washington, all over Japan the voices could be heard shouting, “this time it’s us who you will listen to”.
The photos and voices born from the protests on the streets become the trigger for this era.
A photobook in which photographer Rody Shimazaki and rapper ECD capture the spirit in the streets of 21st century Japan.
