Chinati: The Vision of Donald Judd

Donald JUDD

Publisher: Hatje Cantz

2nd Edition

Spring 2020 saw the publication of a new edition of “Chinati: The Vision of Donald Judd”, edited and principally written by director emerita Marianne Stockebrand, originally co-published in 2010 by Chinati and Yale University Press. This comprehensive history of the museum and catalogue of the collection is the only volume dedicated exclusively to the Chinati Foundation, and is a principal resource for scholars, students, and visitors to the museum.

The second edition of “Chinati: The Vision of Donald Judd” includes a new chapter on Robert Irwin’s permanent installation untitled (dawn to dusk), which was added to the collection in 2016. The volume’s back matter—artist bibliographies and materials related to Chinati’s special exhibitions, the artist in residence program, and other activities—has been updated to reflect the nearly ten years between the book’s original publication and the second edition. Chinati director Jenny Moore has contributed a new preface to this edition, which is co-published by the Chinati Foundation, Yale University Press, and Hatje Cantz. This is an ideal moment for an updated second edition of this indispensable volume—published to coincide with the March 2020 opening of the Donald Judd retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art.
