Born in Osaka in 1971, he began writing a series of articles and photographs introducing people he met on the street called “ON THE STREET” in the Osaka Shimbun in 1996. This became the starting point of a style of work that has continued to the present day. In each installment of the series, he introduces an encounter with a subject in the form of a single photograph and an article, and the content vividly conveys a momentary chance encounter and a portrait of the person. The people Motoda selects are those who clearly radiate a unique aura among the crowd and have a unique outlook on life. Another feature of this film is that Motoda takes a close look at people he has photographed once and then again and again, with some of these people appearing frequently from the 1990s to the present. Motoda's life and the lives of these people continually cross paths and dialogue with each other, and sometimes he gets involved in their personal affairs, but there is a mysterious relationship of trust that makes the photographs so appealing.
