We would like to greet this new year by looking back on the ten most popular photobooks 2018 had to offer. Our list is based on books ordered on shashasha between January and December 2018.
The year is slowly coming to an end, and we at shashasha would like to use the remaining weeks to highlight a few of the most exciting, most interesting, most daring, most touching – in short, the best – photobooks of the year. We think these books would make excellent presents for photography-loving friends, loved ones or, of course, yourself.
between November 4 and 18, we will set up a small pop-up shop at CASE Gallery in Shibuya.
For the pop-up shop, we have prepared a variety of books usually not available via our webstore - from the last few copies of sold-out popular books to out-of-print first editions (e.g. Tsutomo Yamagata’s “Ten Disciples”) and signed copies (e.g. Kikuji Kawada’s “Remote Past a Memoir: 1951-1966”) to rarities like a vintage multi-volume collection of Nobuyoshi Araki’s works.
shashasha and Case Publishing are taking part in this year’s Tokyo Art Book Fair.
You can find our stand in the International Section, at booth I-038. We look forward to seeing you!
Managed by Japan-based photobook publisher Case Publishing (“Last Years Photographs” by Nobuyoshi Araki, “88” by Yuri Ozaki, “Roadside Lights” by Eiji Ohashi and more), the galleries focus on the photobook as an art piece itself. In addition to their role as an exhibition space for new photographic publications, the galleries will be an attempt at supporting the local photography culture by hosting a variety of photography-related events, such as seminars, workshops, symposiums and talkshows.
shashasha will be taking part in this year’s Miss Read - Art Book Fair in Berlin. The festival will be open from today (July 14th) until Sunday (July 16th) and feature a variety of exhibitors and events from around the world.
