Born in Nakano-ku, Tokyo, moved to Saitama Prefecture when she was 10 years old, graduated from Kawagoe Girls' High School in Saitama Prefecture in 1991, received the Parco Award at the urbanart#2 exhibition in 1993, graduated from Musashino Art University, Department of Visual Communication Design in 1995, and went to the United States as a Japanese Government Overseas Study Program for Artists in 1998. In 1999, he received his MFA in Fine Art Photography from the California Institute of the Arts.
