Kazuyoshi MIYOSHI
三好和義
Born in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture in 1958. As a child, his parents were in the banana import business. He grew up feeling the tropics in the banana ripening room. When he was in elementary school, he visited the site of the Osaka Expo and took pictures, which opened his eyes to the fascination of photography. 14 years old, his work taken at the Yoshino River was published in the local “Tokushima Shimbun” newspaper. This was the first time he was paid for his work. At this time, he realized that he wanted to become a professional photographer.
At the age of 17, his work was selected for the Nika Exhibition. He held a solo exhibition at the Ginza Nikon Salon. Both exhibitions were the youngest ever held at the time, and were the talk of the town. During his college years, he was active in magazines such as Brutus. In 1985, his debut photo book “RAKUEN” was published and became an unprecedented bestseller for a photo book. For this work, he was the youngest photographer ever to win the Kimura Ihei Award (at the time). Since then, he has published numerous photo collections on the theme of “paradise,” including “Tahiti,” “Maldives,” “Okinawa,” and “Hawaii.
In 1998, he photographed “World Heritage Sites in Japan” at the request of the Japan Association for UNESCO. In 2000, he published “Yakushima” in a luxury book. In 2000, he published “Yakushima” in a luxury book and held a photography exhibition at Wako Hall in Ginza, Tokyo.
He published “Ise Jingu” in 2003 and “88 Places in Shikoku” in 2004. Published “Gokurakuen” in 2008, a collection of photographs of Buddhist statues, many of which are national treasures. In 2009, he published “Kyoto no Gosho to Rikyu” (Kyoto Imperial Palace, Katsura Imperial Villa, Sento Imperial Palace, and Shugakuin Imperial Villa), a book of photographs of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Katsura Imperial Villa, Sento Imperial Palace, and Shugakuin Imperial Villa, and in 2010, he held a photography exhibition at Ginza Wako Hall. He has photographed the Shosoin treasures every year since 2008. He photographed the entire collection of the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka, and dedicated his work to the Ise Jingu Shikinen Sengu in 2001.
