Shiogama Photo Festival
Shiogama Photo Festival was started by Itaru Hirama, a photographer born and raised in a photo studio in Shiogama City, as an event to familiarize people with photography from various perspectives by inviting people in the field of photography who are active on the front lines.
The event has been held five times since its inception in March 2008 until 2016, and has featured independent curator Juko Kikuta, who is active both in Japan and abroad, as artistic director, and has conducted portfolio reviews, which were not yet widespread at the time of the 2008 event, and exhibited diverse and high-quality photographs in historical buildings and other locations throughout the city.
