With Eyes of a Hare
Having stumbled upon the gaze of a 14 year old girl at a local autumn festival in the mountains of Oku-Yoshino area, Noriko Matsumoto began a photographic project documenting the young girl’s youth and growth which would span 10 years. The relationship and the resulting photographs from Matsumoto’s encounters with her subject are a dazzling array of visual poetry which speaks truth and wonder on notions of youth, fragility and the never-ending cycles of life. Matsumoto beautifully captures fragments of a young girls growth into womanhood which goes beyond the imagined and expected. I
