Tone-gawa wo Yuku
In 150 photos, Hiroshi Hanawa meticulously documents the landscapes of the Tonegawa river in Japan’s Chiba prefecture and the lives of the people living close to it. The photographs span 20 years between 1969 and 1989.
“This photo book, taken between 1969 and 1989, documents the Tonegawa river and the people living alongside it. I am deeply thankful to the people who allowed me to photograph them.
The world has undergone great changes during those 20 years, and looking back now, I can feel that this period has seen a number of historic turning points. Photography can become a fight against time itself, and most of the views and situations captured in this book are no longer part of the present world.”
