Threads in the Dark
Yuki Iwanami’s award-winning “Threads in the Dark” follows the festivals that continue to remain, in spite of everything, in the areas that were affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami on March 11, 2011.
Normal life still cannot resume. Many people have lost their homes, their jobs, their communities, their futures, their past. Yet the festivals continue. Iwanami used his camera to capture the realities of those in the affected areas still waiting for the recovery to arrive and to find out what lies behind the almost surreal scenes of the different local folk festivals that defiantly live on in the Tohoku region.
