Gaj Singh II - often called the “last maharaja of India” - ruler of the desert kingdom of Jodhpur. In his younger days, Japanese photographer Kazuoyoshi Miyoshi received the special permission to record the private life of the noble maharaja. Thirty years later, visiting Jodhpur again, Miyoshi was welcomed with an open heart by the maharaja, and invited to visit even the deepest corners of his palace. These rooms represent some of the finest achievements of Indian culture, and allowed Miyoshi a gander at the long history of the maharajas.
His photographs are the first to explore the depths of this rich, far-reaching culture.
