GOTO AKI

Publisher: Akaaka Art Publishing

Landscapes captured as pulsating, breathing entities; as living matter constantly in change – Goto Aki’s approach to photographing nature is one that engages with nature on an instinctive, almost private level. “Before the brain transposes the landscapes into words,” Aki says in his afterword, and the parallels (or at least similarities) to streetphotography are not by accident but an influence from Aki’s teacher Kiyoshi Suzuki.

“As I climbed the mountain, I noticed a huge rock.
When I approached the rock, it had patches of moss.
When I approached the moss, lichens became visible.”
