Humans as equals, one with nature
Every year between 2011 and 2019, Paris-based Japanese photographer Takeshi Miyamoto visited Iceland to photograph its nature and the people living there. Over time, Miyamoto found a way to confront his inner self through his portraits of Icelandic men. Having struggled with his identity as a sexual minority, Miyamoto discovered an innate beauty that he had been yearning for. In his tender photobook, Iceland’s wild natural landscape – an enveloping presence that keeps wandering between extremes, overwhelming us with its force or its beauty, healing us, hurting us – appear as if part of the human spectrum.
“I feel that the people in Iceland accept their positive and negative sides and simply live their lives as they are. It is a society that understands the darkness as well as the light within the heart.”
