In the “Prospects” series, Japanese photographer Kazuyuki Kawaguchi documents small towns throughout Japan. His eyes familiarized with the modern urban landscape of the megacity of Tokyo, on his visits to smaller, older towns Kawaguchi manages to discover an almost overwhelming presence of peculiar details with which he crowds his otherwise unassuming scenes.

For volume 5 of his series, Kawaguchi traveled to numerous corners on the outer urban peripheries of the Kanto region. The photographs were taken in autumn 2020, as the corona pandemic established itself as a turning point in recent history.
