This is the Japanese edition of Sophie Calle's photo book "Because".

The book is based on her 2018 exhibition of the same name. In the exhibition, each photograph was hidden behind a piece of cloth printed with Calle's reasons and motivations for taking the photograph. In this way, Calle reversed the usual order in which text and photographs are presented, and used this reversal as a device to tell poignant stories about the relationship between photography, narrative, and memory.
The book reproduces the experience of the exhibition by hiding the photographs between the pages, requiring the reader to pull them out with care.
