Lost Time

Kyoji TAKAHASHI

Publisher: Post-Fake

With his photobook “Lost Time”, Japanese photographer Kyoji Takahashi takes on the subject of the flower in photography. Having mentioned his desire to make a book of his flower photographs in an interview with Post-Fake (a new multimedia project), he was then approached about realizing his ambition.

“Although real flowers possess a certain spatiality, my photographs do not. However, what my photographs possess is time. Time, connected to memory.”
― Kyoji Takahashi (translation by shashasha)

Takahashi’s photographs approach their subjects with admiration and respect. There is little pretentions: he tries to capture the flowers as they are, as they appear to him, without reutilizing them as symbols or signifiers. But the mood is tinged with nostalgia and an awareness of the flow of time, and in the handwritten fore-/afterword that adorns the cover and backside of the book, Takahashi quotes Proust and Nabokov. Though sentimental, Takahashi’s “Lost Time” celebrates the varied beauty of flowers in earnest.

Each copy of “Lost Time” comes with a protective bag that features a hand-made drawing and signature by the artist.
