"Iron Ribbon" by Kazuhei Kimura (b. 1993, Japanese) is composed of photographs taken over the past few years of his partner while in and around tradition-rich hotels between various photographic productions. With an affinity for long-established hotels, each destination was defined by the type of hotel, rather than its attractions, local cuisine and scenery.

As a teenager, preceding any photographic endeavors, Kimura’s devotion to fashion led his curiosity to a choker made by the Japanese jewelry designer Shinji Nakaba: a ribbon made of iron. At first glance, it appeared flexible and pleasant, but to the touch it was dense, incisive and frigid—the coexistence of such opposing qualities attracted him. Despite its significant price, it was bought without hesitation.

With changing tastes and preferences, Kimura never parted with the iron ribbon and has given it unconditional affection ever since it was obtained. At present, Kimura sees a commonality of the iron ribbon with his partner; of her long hair, her quiet back, as well as her own unique elegance and strength of will.
