Interlude
With “Interlude,” Japanese photographer Yuki Kumagai celebrates the first ten years of his career as a photographer. While the professional work of Kumagai, a former assistant to Osamu Yokonami, reaches across a wide range of genres, from advertising to brand campaigns, fashion and portraits, the photographs compiled in “Interlude” speak of Kumagai’s refine sense as an artist.
Inspired by the lines and textures of the body, by sandy beaches, human figures, close-ups of various materials, wrinkles, natural phenomena, usual and unusual phenomena, Kumagai’s “Interlude” argues for a deeper appreciation of the fleeting moments that happen in the interstices of life; seemingly repetitive and negligible, yet unique and invaluable.
“Interlude” includes an afterword by the artist. All texts available in Japanese and in English translation.
