Elnias Forest
Japanese photographer Nao Tsuda has spent four years photographing the nature – particularly the many forests – of the Eastern European country Lithuania. Tsuda first became fascinated with Lithuania when he witnessed a summer solstice ceremony in a small village.
With a mixture of documentary and almost mystical photographs and poetry (in Japanese and English), Tsuda explores the relationship between humans and nature, drawing parallels between the rites and traditions he witnessed in Lithuania and those he knows from Japan.
“Silently
the awaited thaw
started
Spring had arrived
in a blurred face of the moon
on the surface of the river
Perkunas’s lightning
struck the ground
Flashes and roars
awakened the sleeping creatures
animated trees and plants
to be enthusiastic”
