Blindspot
Yurina Okada plays with her signature motif of flowers and nudes in her photobook “Blindspot” (published as part of the Neotokyozine project of photobooks and zines). Okada, who has previously garnered attention for her experiments with the materiality and physicality of her photographic prints, draws the reader into a mysterious, almost haunting mood with her series of monochrome photographs. While the nature of the titular “blindspot” is left to the imagination, Okada makes noticable use of photographic “mistakes” such as overexposure, blurry focus and double exposure, with some images leaving no gray area at all.
An exciting, stimulating work by the 2019 Dior Young Talent Award winner.
