For her debut photobook “Bernoulli”, Kalina Leonard photographed Jan, of the music duo Jan and Naomi, in a series focused on – according to Leonard’s words – “destruction and rebirth.” Through sensitive monochrome images, we follow a man through corridors into a room, watch him undress, bath, wander into bed; occasional contact, eye-to-eye. Leonard’s images tell the story of a shy first night spent together, a story usually told by male photographers. Even the best of them, however, rarely achieve the subtle sensuality with which Leonard captured her subject.
