Over the last number of years, I’ve worked as record producer, musician, and engineer. As a result, my processes for editing pictures and music have started to overlap. In book form, I wanted these pictures to have a beat —to convey a sense of time and rhythm. Instead of clock or calendar time; which contains its own inherent logic, cyclical motion over the adherence to a grid. From start to finish, the book layout completes a full rotation —the reader must physically turn the book at five intervals; an active engagement in the form of continual re-orientation. Each turn introduces a new thread of images, pulling the viewer through extremes of day and night, hot and cold, vast and claustrophobic spaces.
