Peter Sutherland employs techniques of traditional documentary photography to capture the hidden beauty of ordinary objects and everyday situations. In 2001, he released his first directed film PEDAL which gathered much attention at Sundance Film Festival. In 2003, he worked as a director of photography on Stoked, a documentary film about famed skateboarder GATOR, directed by Helen Stickler. In May, 2004, he released his first book, Autograf: New York City’s Graffiti Writers (powerHouse Books, 2004), to worldwide acclaim. His work can be found in the pages of Vice, The New Order, Dazed & Confused, ANP Quarterly, and Monster Children, and for clients like The North Face, Adidas, Stussy, Duracell, Filson, Thule, Lacoste, Palladium, Supreme, Nike, P.A.M., Dew Tour, and No.6. Sutherland’s favorite director is Werner Herzog, and his own film work has been influenced by both Herzog and Albert & David Maysles’ Gimme Shelter. In addition to Tierney Gearon: The Mother Project (Zeitgeist Films), Peter directed Pedal (powerHouse Books DVD) and is working on a documentary about Richard Prince.
