Born in Fukuoka in 1938. After graduating from the Japan Professional School of Photography, he studied under Shisui Tanahashi.
After working for the advertising agency Daiko, he moved to Tokyo in 1965 and joined Delta Mondo, where he worked mainly in men's fashion. He received APA, ADC, and other awards in the 1960s, and after learning about the Woodstock concert in 1969, he became interested in subcultures and traveled to New York and London to photograph them. His work in advertising, music, and film has led him to where he is today.
