Photobooks 2020: The Pandemic
As December enters its second half, a rather special year comes to an end. The Corona Pandemic has dominated virtually the entire world. With the virus being such an inevitable, formative part of the year, we would like to use this article to approach the topic through photobooks.
The following publications have either been affected by the virus (like Moriyama's "Record 44") or inspired by it (like the imaginative "Still Life" or "Night Order"). Other books appear in this list as remedies for the "new normal" of a locked-down life – with Teju Cole, Yu Yamauchi and Kazuyoshi Miyoshi offering books about wanderlust and locality, and invite us to travel – at least in our minds – to other worlds and places. We hope you enjoy our selection.
